Here a portrait commission I finished recently, I took a few process shots as I was going along. The first two show the inks and the first colours that I started to put down onto the painting, just to get a quick sense of the light and shadows.

Next is where the more detailed colors come in, whilst continuing to work on the shadows and highlights. At this point I nearly always end up painting solely with just a teeny tiny brush, in order to add all the details and hairs.

Not a drastic amount was done after this, just more details and a lot of tweaking to get everything looking right!

Long time no blog

Ok so its been a while since I last did a post... truth is it feels like a have a lot of different projects on at the moment which have been keeping me busy! Anyway I thought it might be best to do a quick update and share some of the things I've been working on.

First off, here are a couple of private commissions I did a while back:

These are both done with watercolour and Ink, on A4 sized paper. I was quite pleased with how these two turned out, I think with Bernt in particular the photo had so much character which has translated really well into the painting.

I have also been working on my Etsy shop, I'm currently in the process of rebranding it which hopefully will be unveiled soon. In the meantime, I have loads of new designs of jewellery which you can take a peek at.

Finally is Sir Charles Vintage! Alexander and I decided to set up an online vintage store as a fun side project, you know, just because we both love vintage clothes and stuff!

Motel Illustration Contest

Last week I submitted an illustration to a competition that Motel were running, and I'm pleased to say that I am one of the top 10 finalists! The winner will be announced next week, and you can view all the finalists on their facebook page.

I really liked the feminine shape of their Catalina dresses, in particular the tonal floral one, and wanted to do something playful to represent it.

Newest dog portraits.

Here is the latest dog portrait I have worked on, finished off a few days ago. It is done with Ink and watercolour and is about 25 x 32cm.

Oh and also a couple of others that I painted last year, but forgot to share! The first is a private commission done in ink and watercolour, the second is oil and was painted for Eastern Counties C.K.C.S from a selection of members photos:

Finally, every year I donate a painting (or paintings) to the event Dachshund of the Year, which are auctioned off to raise money for the event. Here is one I did for this years DOTY, which is was around A5-ish in size:

I'm always happy to paint portraits of any pets, just drop me a line at

Sacrifice iii (Redone)

So I went back and redrew Sacrifice iii as I wasn't happy with the first... the goat just looked really happy and a bit creepy, which just didn't really work. I also added in the monoprint texture to the background which I think goes well, so i'll probably go back and edit the other two as well so they match.
